I am a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Central Washington University in 1991. After that, I went on to receive my Masters in Professional Accounting (MPAcc), with an emphasis in Taxation from the University of Washington in 1993.
During my Masters degree work, I began working at the "Big 4" accounting firm KPMG Peat Marwick, specializing in tax. During my time at KPMG, I was promoted to manager after only three and a half years. I focused on high wealth individual tax matters, high technology businesses, real estate, construction, and hospitality industries. I managed the income tax compliance for large multi-national companies, as well as the related tax consulting projects. I left the firm in late 1997 to begin work in private industry.
My private industry experience includes directing the worldwide tax function at three public companies from late 1997 to 2001. These companies include Visio Corporation, F5 Networks, Inc., and Onyx Software Corporation. At these companies, I managed all the tax reporting functions, tax compliance, SEC reporting related to taxes, and many other tax-related consulting projects.
In late 2001, I decided to start my own public accounting firm, Wright, PLLC. We are a full-service tax consulting firm specializing in worldwide tax compliance and consulting for high technology businesses and high-wealth individuals.
In 2012, I started two complementary internet based businesses. live. minimalist. is a financial coaching and lifestyle blog specializing in applying minimalist principles to people's financial lives. Another site, CPAtools, is a site directed towards accountants and CPAs that provides knowledge and tools to display your financial information in the best possible format.
On a personal level, I am married, and have two young kids. I enjoy running (I've completed over 30 marathons), basketball (I play in multiple competitive leagues each year), and chasing my kids around.
